The most critical career in aviation is becoming a licensed AME, where your signature certifies an aircraft’s airworthiness. No other profession holds this level of legal authority or responsibility.
Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs). They work behind the scenes to ensure every aircraft is safe, compliant, and ready for take-off. No aircraft can legally fly without certification from a licensed AME, making their role vital in protecting millions of passengers every day.
10 +2 with Physics, Maths & Chemistry or 3-year Diploma in Engineering from a recognised board/university.

Students enrolled in any of the above AME streams can also pursue a degree concurrently through our exclusive AME Dual Program.
India’s aviation industry is on a strong growth trajectory, with airlines placing large aircraft orders and passenger traffic steadily increasing. The government projects the aircraft MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) sector to reach nearly $4 billion by 2031, driven by rising maintenance demand and supportive policies to strengthen domestic capabilities.
This rapid expansion underscores the critical role of Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs), the professionals responsible for ensuring every aircraft is safe, compliant, and airworthy. As the industry grows, so does demand for skilled AMEs, creating significant career opportunities across the aviation ecosystem.
Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs) are far more than technicians they are legally authorised certifying professionals responsible for declaring an aircraft safe and airworthy.
As per global aviation standards defined by ICAO (Annex 1 & Annex 8) and enforced across 193 UN member countries, along with India’s Aircraft Act, 1934, Aircraft Rules, 1937, and CAR-66 regulations, no aircraft can legally fly without approval from a licensed AME.
Every flight, every passenger, and every aircraft depends on an AME’s signature through the Certificate of Release to Service (CRS) before take-off.
While the AME licence grants legal authority to certify aircraft, a bachelor’s degree adds academic strength and career flexibility.
Our AME Dual Program allows students to pursue a degree alongside AME certification, unlocking opportunities in:
This combination ensures broader career prospects and long-term professional growth.
With the rapid expansion of the aviation sector, the demand for licensed AMEs and qualified aviation professionals is rising consistently. This makes AME a highly secure, respected, and future-proof career where your expertise directly contributes to aviation safety.
Even with advanced qualifications like an M.Tech or PhD in Aeronautical or Aerospace Engineering, you cannot certify an aircraft without completing the AME curriculum under CAR-66 and obtaining a valid AME licence.
This highlights the exclusive legal authority and global recognition of the AME profession.

At the Institute of Aeronautics & Engineering, we go beyond conventional training by offering a career-focused learning ecosystem designed for future aviation professionals.
Students enrolled in any AME stream have the unique opportunity to pursue a degree simultaneously through our exclusive AME Dual Program, combining practical certification with academic excellence.
This integrated approach not only enhances technical expertise but also opens doors to diverse career opportunities in aviation, engineering, management, and beyond.
The global aviation industry is soaring with robust growth, offering promising opportunities for Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs). According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), air passenger numbers are expected to reach 4.7 billion in 2026, surpassing pre-COVID levels of 4.5 billion in 2019. This resurgence fuels the demand for newer aircraft and efficient maintenance systems.
In India, the aviation market is the third-largest globally and is projected to become the third-largest aviation market by passengers by 2030 (Ministry of Civil Aviation, Govt. of India). With over 1,200 aircraft on order by Indian carriers and the expansion of Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hubs, the country is poised for a boom in aviation services.

According to Boeing’s 2023 Pilot & Technician Outlook, the aviation industry will require approximately 690,000 new maintenance technicians worldwide by 2042, highlighting the massive and sustained demand for skilled Aircraft Maintenance Engineers.
India’s Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) industry is projected to expand from USD 1.7 billion in 2021 to USD 4.0 billion by 2031 (Invest India). This rapid growth is set to generate thousands of new job opportunities for licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs) across the country.
Key government policies such as 100% FDI in the MRO sector and the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme are significantly boosting regional connectivity and strengthening aviation infrastructure. These initiatives are driving industry expansion and creating increased employment opportunities for Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs) across India.
