AME Exam Eligibility 2027 – Qualification, Age & Medical Criteria

If you are planning to appear for the AME exam, the first thing you should check is whether you meet the eligibility criteria. SOACET (School of Aeronautics Common Entrance Test) is the entrance exam for admission into Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME), B.Tech Aeronautical Engineering, and the Integrated program at School of Aeronautics, Neemrana.

This page explains the eligibility requirements in detail so that you can clearly understand who can apply. Please note that the final and most accurate criteria are always published in the official SOACET notice. You should verify the latest information on soacet.org before filling the application form.

Basic AME Exam Eligibility Criteria at a Glance

CriteriaRequirement
Educational Qualification10+2 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics (PCM)
Minimum MarksAs specified in the official notice (generally 45–50% aggregate)
Age LimitMinimum 16 years
Medical FitnessMust be medically fit (Colour blindness is not allowed)

Educational Qualification

To be eligible for the AME entrance exam (SOACET), you must have passed the 10+2 examination or an equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) as compulsory subjects.

  • Students from any recognised board (CBSE, ICSE, State Boards, etc.) can apply, provided they have studied PCM.
  • Candidates who have completed B.Sc. with PCM are also eligible.
  • Diploma holders in relevant engineering branches may be eligible, especially through lateral entry routes. The exact diploma branches accepted will be mentioned in the official notification.

If you are appearing for your 10+2 examination in 2027, you can usually apply. However, you must pass the examination before the admission process is completed.

Minimum Marks Required

The minimum aggregate percentage required in 10+2 (PCM) is clearly mentioned in the official SOACET notice every year. In most cases, it remains in the range of 45% to 50%.

  • Some relaxation in minimum marks may be available for reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC). This will also be clearly stated in the official brochure.
  • Always calculate your percentage as per the method given in the official notice (some boards have different calculation methods).

Meeting the minimum marks is compulsory. Even if you perform well in the entrance exam, you will not be considered for admission if you do not fulfil the percentage criteria.

Age Limit

  • The minimum age required to apply for SOACET is 16 years.
  • There is generally no upper age limit for appearing in the entrance exam. However, you should confirm this from the latest official notification.

Age is calculated as on a specific date mentioned in the brochure (usually the date of admission or a fixed date given by the institute). Keep your Class 10 certificate ready as age proof.

Medical Fitness Criteria

Medical fitness is an important requirement for Aircraft Maintenance Engineering because the nature of work demands good physical and visual standards.

  • Candidates must be medically fit.
  • Colour blindness is not allowed. Students with colour vision deficiency are generally not eligible for the AME program.
  • Other medical standards (such as general physical fitness) will be checked at the time of admission.

It is advisable to get a basic medical check-up done before applying so that you are aware of your fitness status.

Eligibility for Different Programs

ProgramWho Can Apply
AME (Aircraft Maintenance Engineering)10+2 PCM / B.Sc. (PCM) / Relevant Diploma
B.Tech Aeronautical Engineering10+2 with PCM (as per official criteria)
Integrated B.Tech + AME10+2 with PCM (as per official criteria)

Your final eligibility for a particular program will be verified during the counselling process based on your documents and SOACET rank.

Important Points You Should Remember

  • Simply meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee admission. Final selection depends on your SOACET rank and performance in counselling.
  • Keep all original documents ready (10th & 12th mark sheets, age proof, category certificate if applicable, and medical certificate).
  • If you belong to a reserved category, check the specific relaxation rules in the official notice.
  • Lateral entry seats (if available) have separate eligibility conditions. Read the official brochure carefully for these details.
  • The eligibility criteria can have minor changes every year. Never rely only on old information.
